RUN WITH ENDURANCE WITH EYES ON JESUS

10/31/09

…let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin which so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

Life here on earth is likened to a race which God has set before us. Our job, or goal, is to persevere to the end of this life, to not falter or turn aside, so that we will receive the ultimate prize at the end: reconciliation with God and life eternal in heaven. We are to endure any pain, weariness, etc. as we stand fast in our faith and continue on in faith. We are to put aside anything which would slow us down in our race especially the sins of unbelief, doubt, or looking anywhere except to Jesus which all very easily get us off track and hinder our progress. Our eyes must remain fixed on Jesus at all times so that our faith will remain constant and strong.

This is a warning for all Christians to be strong and unwavering in our faith. We must look to Jesus always and remember all He endured to set us free from the bondage of sin. We must keep our eyes and focus off ourselves and all circumstances in our lives and keep them only on Jesus. We must refuse to allow sin to have a place in our lives.

PRAYER: Dear God, Today again I renounce sin, doubt, and weariness in my life. I seek to look only at Jesus in full assurance of faith. Please strengthen me and enable me to run with endurance. Help my faith to be strong and visible to me and those around me.
