WHITEWASHED LIVES WILL CRUMBLE AND FALL

11/28/09

“These evil prophets deceive my people by saying, ‘All is peaceful!’ when there is no peace at all! It’s as if the people have built a flimsy wall, and these prophets are trying to hold it together by covering it with whitewash! Tell these whitewashers that their wall will soon fall down. A heavy rainstorm will undermine it; great hailstones and mighty winds will knock it down.” Ezek. 13:10-11 (NLT)

In Ezekiel’s time many purported to speak for God, telling the people that all was well in their lives and in their relationship with God and saying that God would bless them and bring peace. This angered God. God saw how the people were disobedient and how they embraced the evil thinking and practices of the world around them. They thought they could conceal their faults and look good outwardly yet continue to sin. God knew that all that the world offers is but a flimsy protection, easily undermined by trials and knocked down when troubles and adversity come. Only building on the foundation of Jesus with faith and obedience to God will be sufficient to save us and anchor us in the storms.

Each of us must be sure we do not deceive ourselves by trusting in the things of the world. Everything except faith in Jesus will crumble and fail us. Our faults can not be concealed or exonerated in or through the world. Only the blood of Jesus can cover us, cleanse us, and provide that sure foundation that will never be broken down.

PRAYER: Dear God, Let me not be deceived by the wisdom of the world. I place my trust in You. If You build the wall, it will stand no matter what comes against it for You are mighty in power to save. Please lead me in my life.
