JOY COMES IN THE MORNING

1/9/10

For His anger is but for a moment,

His favor is for life;

Weeping may endure for a night,

But joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5 (NKJV)

David had walked with God as His anointed for many years. During this time he had times of great sorrow, anguish, and pain. At times David sinned greatly and experienced the terrible consequences sin brought to his life and to the lives of others. Other times he endured unjust slander, unjust attacks against his life, and sorrow from enemies through no fault of his own. Yet David understood that God’s anger, His punishment, the persecutions, the attacks, and the sorrows he experienced all were but for a moment compared with the mercy and grace God gives for a lifetime and into eternity.

Our perspective as Christians needs to be on eternity and God’s faithfulness to His word. Sometimes we need chastisement. Sometimes we have great sorrow and anguish in our lives. The weeping may be intense, and the night may be very long, dark, and lonely. But God is faithful to see us through it even when He feels far away to us. The morning must follow night, and with it will come new hope and peace and the joy of a heart renewed in the presence of God, a heart that clings tightly to God in the midst of dark nights, a heart that will spend eternity with God.

PRAYER: Dear God, My heart weeps and cries out to You when my loved ones suffer and are beset on every side. Sometimes the night is long, and I cry out to You to help, heal, save, and defeat Satan. I cry for Your help right now with no further delay for it seems so long. But You are faithful, O Lord. You have promised joy in the morning and Your sustaining power until morning comes.
