FREE TO BE GOD'S SLAVE

1/30/10

It is God’s will that your good lives should silence those who make foolish accusations against you. You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom is not an excuse to do evil. You are free to live as God’s slave. I Peter 2:15-16 (NLT)

Peter tells us that Jesus has bought us with His own life. When we accept this sacrifice on our behalf, we become free from the bondage of sin. This forgiveness covers every sin. Yet it does not then give us license to continue sinning or to indulge in other evil desires. We have been purchased and now are slaves of God. His will is that we live the kind of lives that will reflect God’s goodness and righteousness to everyone we meet.

If we are truly God’s slaves, we would completely put aside anything we want to do (our will) that is not in accordance with our Master’s will. We would consciously at all times seek to know His will day by day and minute by minute so we could do His will. Our hearts would seek His pleasure, and we would try to bring honor to His name as one living in His household and called by His name.

PRAYER: Dear God, Forgive me for so often wanting to be the master and not Your slave. Help me to be truly submissive to You. Help me to live with the daily awareness that the way I live my life--what I say and what I do--should reflect You. Help me to live the good life that is Your will for me.
