CEASE DOING EVIL; LEARN TO DO GOOD

2/20/10

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Reprove the oppressor. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow. Isaiah 1:16-17 (NKJV)

Wash yourselves and be clean! Let me no longer see your evil deeds. Give up your wicked ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows. Isaiah 1:16-17 (NLT)

God is a holy God. He hates our sins and sinful ways that keep us apart and alienated from Him. His desire for each of us is that we wash ourselves and become clean. And He has provided the shed blood of Jesus to do just that if we will but receive that blood for the cleansing of our own sins. Then we are able to come before God without our sins attached to us. Then we can hear His words and learn to do good. One important aspect of this involves seeking justice for all, reproving anything that oppresses others, and actually helping the weak, the oppressed, the widows and orphans, and the defenseless among us.

What joy for Christians to know that we can and we have washed ourselves in the blood of Jesus, and we are now clean. We must continue to allow the Holy Spirit to teach us to do good. If we have not worked to seek justice for all, perhaps we should be helping to extend justice to the weak and oppressed in some way and to reprove oppressors.

PRAYER: Dear God, I am so thankful for my salvation and that I can come before You always washed and clean. Help me to learn to do good according to Your will for me. Show me the way I should seek justice and how I should help the oppressed, the weak, and the defenseless. I am open to hear Your voice and Your leading.
